Jacksonville State University “Program Offered: Masters in Community Counseling/School Counseling. The program is to train Professional School Counselors. Students acquire a foundation in the counseling core and strength in the specialty field courses in program development, consultation and intervention, counseling children and adolescents, and individual and group appraisal. Students become competent in utilizing the Alabama State Department of Education Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Plan that exemplifies national standards. The focus is to educate school counselors and enable them to address elementary and secondary student’s needs in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social development. Teaching, scholarship and service are values demonstrated throughout the program. Self-awareness, intellectual development and social consciousness are supported and encouraged. Counselors who are graduates in Counseling in the Community Agency concentration work in diverse settings. Career opportunities include employment in mental health agencies, private practice, substance abuse rehabilitation facilities, and other non-profit agencies such as child advocacy centers, crisis centers, women’s counseling centers, and family service centers.”
University of Montevallo “Program Offered: Masters in Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling/Therapy/Community Counseling Counseling/School Counseling. The marriage and family track provides students with a solid foundation in family systems theory, systems counseling techniques, and current societal trends, thereby preparing students for work with individuals, couples, and families. “
University of North Alabama “Program Offered: Masters in Community Counseling/ School Counseling. The School Counseling Program prepares students to serve effectively as elementary and secondary school counselors and meets the requirements for School Counselor certification/licensure in Alabama and/or other states. The Community Counseling Program qualifies students for a variety of counseling positions in the community and meets the coursework requirements for Licensed Professional Counselor status in Alabama. Henderson State University “Program Offered: Masters in Community Counseling/School Counseling. An MSE in School Counseling with seven hybrid courses. Six faculty and an average of 20 students. Full time or part time study available. 48 semester hours. “
University of Arkansas “Program Offered: Masters in Community Counseling/School Counseling/Counselor Education and Supervision. The Community Counseling MS program prepares students to work in a variety of collegiate, community, governmental, and private agency settings. The recommended sequence of course work is shown in the appendix. Upon graduation students will demonstrate the professional knowledge, skills, and practices necessary to promote the academic, career, and personal/social development of individuals and families.”
Arizona State University “Program Offered; Master of Counseling (MC). The Master of Counseling (MC) is a 60-semester-hour program which prepares students to become professional counselors, culturally competent to work with diverse clientele in a variety of community settings in Arizona and other states. Graduates are license-eligible in the state of Arizona.”
Northern Arizona University “Program Offered: Masters in Community Counseling/School Counseling. This degree is designed to prepare professional counselors as applied general practitioners with a unique educational-developmental orientation to work within social, mental health, and human resource agencies. Two important emphasis areas within the program are working in rural and ethnocultural areas, and working with at-risk youth and families. This program meets the coursework requirements for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) of the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners and for national counselor certification of the National Board for Certified Counselors.”
University of Phoenix – Phoenix “Program Offered: Masters in Community Counseling. The Master of Science in Counseling program with a concentration in Community Counseling is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed in today-s counseling field. California State University Fullerton “Program Offered: Masters in Community Counseling / Masters in School Counseling/Career Counseling/Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling/Therapy/Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education – College Counseling Emphasis.The Department of Counseling offers a Masters of Science in Counseling, emphasizing community counseling. Our program is approved by the California State Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) to meet the educational requirements preparing students for state licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT). We are also nationally accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Our emphasis is on the training of clinicians who can serve the needs of individuals and families in their communities. We train students to provide brief and long-term counseling while maintaining professional identities as counselors and marriage and family therapists.”
San Francisco State University “Program Offered: Masters in Career Counseling/Gerontological Counseling/Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling/Therapy/College Counseling/School Counseling. The Gerontological Counseling Program provides training for students who want to counsel older persons consistent with the requirements for accreditation by CACREP and the National Board of Certified Counselors. It is the specialization’s intent to focus on generic and specific efforts toward professional development, which includes basic communication skills, theoretical and developmental foundations, mental health assessment and the aging process. Consistent with the general mission of the Department of Counseling, the Gerontological specialization/ emphasis recognizes the need for close coordination with the field. This program achieves most of the basic educational requirements for the professional counselor license in California.”
Sonoma State university “Program Offered: Masters in Community Counseling/School Counseling. The 60-unit Community Counseling program leads to Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) licenses in California. The program relies heavily on interpersonal skill training and field experiences, beginning during the first semester and culminating with an intensive supervised internship in some aspect of counseling, permitting the integration of theory, research, and practical application after the first year. The Department is prepared to assist students in obtaining field placements relevant to their projected professional goals. Community Counseling placements include marriage and family counseling agencies, mental health clinics, counseling centers, schools, and community colleges.”
